Self Adjusting Auto Pap

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure or CPAP is the most often prescribed method of treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
This form of therapy is very effective but impossible to use for some patients as research tells us 50% of those prescribed CPAP discontinue its use after 1 year and by 5 years 83% have discontinued this form of therapy.

Oral Appliances

The most often used alternative to PAP Therapy  is a custom fit mouth piece or Oral Appliance . These custom fit devices are much easier to wear as reportedly over 95% of patients are able to continue their use. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends this form of therapy for the mild to moderate cases and for those unable to wear their CPAP.

Combination Therapy

For the more severe cases an Oral Appliance is prescribed in conjunction with CPAP.  Two recent studies involving patients that had discontinued their CPAP reported that when both forms of therapy were worn together 80% were comfortably able to continue its use; the Oral Appliance maintained the airway which then allowed the pressure on the CPAP to be reduced to a much more tolerable level.
